Do I need protective eyewear?

This will depend on which Generation of Joovv devices you currently own and use. Our First Generation (Legacy), and Generation 2.0 Modular and First Generation Go devices do not require protective eyewear, but we don't recommend looking directly at the LEDs initially, as it can be uncomfortable until your eyes are accustomed to the light. For this reason, we recommend closing your eyes until you find that it’s comfortable to open them.

Our Mini 3.0, Solo 3.0, and Go 2.0 devices have been tested and found to comply with the limits set forth in IEC 62471 for Photobiological Safety Of Lamps And Lamp Systems. The devices emit Infrared Red (NIR) and are categorized under Risk Group 1 (Low Risk). The devices are labeled to include a caution statement that informs the user that NIR is emitted from the device and the user/operators should not stare at the light source during operation.

  • So what does that mean for you? - Protective eyewear is included with all Generation 3.0 and Go 2.0 devices and should be used when NIR is active which includes the following light modes (Red + NIR, NIR only, and Recovery mode).
  • So If I own a Gen 1 or Gen 2 device, I do not need protective eyewear? - Eye protection isn't necessary, but we don't recommend looking directly at the LEDs initially, as it can be uncomfortable until your eyes are accustomed to the light. For this reason, we recommend closing your eyes until you find that it’s comfortable to open them.
